進撃の邪神 | Shingeki no Jashin | Attack on Evil Deity

I have been looking forward to this show from the moment they had announced a second season. Though the series' comedy may not be everyone's cup of tea, for me it is one of the funniest show I had the experience of watching.

Asumi Kana reprises her role as Nyaruko! The genki yet ever so loving Nyarlathotepian. Her character represents what the general male otaku audience find to be appealing. The exotic hair and eye colors and of course her dere dere-ness when it comes to tackling Mahiro, who is voiced by Kitamura Eri. She did a pretty good job at voicing Mahiro as a believable male tsundere. Mahiro plays the straight guy in response to Nyaruko's crazy antics. Kuuko and Hasuta makes up the rest of the “harem?” if you can call it that o.O??? Voiced by Matsuki Miyu in her usual deadpan voice and Kugimiya Rie, who I find myself to like her male roles better than her female ones.

The plot this time, if you call it that, revolves around Mahiro wanting some personal space for himself. He tells Nyaruko that indirectly by suggesting that she get her own personal space of her own. No one wants to be with you 24/7 do they? She doesn't back off as usual and force a love confession on to him. In one of the lockers of the girl's locer room. Luckily for Mahiro, he was saved by Hasuta's Magic Sigil with both his virginity and sanity still in one piece. In the end, Mahiro did not get the space he wanted. Instead he got dragged along into some crazy shit whenever Nyaruko goes way overboard.

LOL Men In Black's neuralizer

It's nice dipping into Haiyore! Nyaruko-san's randomness from time to time. The W in this sequel's title being a reference to Kamen Rider W, which they referenced plenty this episode too. There's also some Gundam reference like the ones when they screamed Sinanju, Zaku Mariner and Stark Jegan as substitution for the usual outburst of ‘ow', ‘geh' or ‘kyaa'. Then, there is the usual Cthulu Mythos reference thrown in about the bad deeds (from a normal human's perspective) Nyarlathotep had done. She never did deny those accusations. Kinda makes her falling in love with Mahiro scary for him yikes! Wait there's more! The reference from Kamen Rider Ryuki when Nyaruko mentioned about the mirror world, the Kamen Rider W reference when she pulled out those drive triggers and finally some Kamen Rider Wizard ones when she did the trademark phrase, “finale dadesu!” and the magic sigils they were playing with in the beginning.

There's probably some more that I had unintentionally missed out :/.

Anyways, I was pretty happy with the comedic level of the first episode. I don't think it might have hooked the first time viewers but to those who had already seen the first season, I'm sure they will enjoy this one too. Looking forward to more antics the cast will get to next. There was that mysterious phone call at the end. Knowing Nyaruko it might be nothing… OR AN END OF THE WORLD SCENARIO!!!!

Stay tuned next time: Nyarko-san Gambaranai

I guess it's time to… call it a day…
