The second most hyped event to expect from Singapore is over. That’s right, Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) has ended and I have to say it was an amazing event but stiflingly boring at some parts. I will cover Day 1 and 2 of the event as separate parts.
STGCC is a combination of both Western and Eastern pop culture, so not only would you spot anime booths, you would also see American Comics. From my point of view, a lot more space was given to the American Comics than Anime stuff and they did bring official Marvel stuff as opposed to official Anime companies. This isn’t a complaint but more of something I happened to notice.
Now, onto the event itself. For Day 1, I spent a large amount of time queuing up for a chance to get Redjuice’s autograph (which I successfully did) and spent another large portion of time checking out the stage events. Basically what little time I had not queuing or camping at the stage was spent buying goods, which brings my total cosplay pictures for Day 1… to 4.
The main focus for Day 1 would definitely be the Redjuice demonstration where he showed the audience how he drew. It was kind of a pity that the interview with him was so short but it was still a eye-opener seeing his drawing workflow. The way he used 3D vector models just to get the effect and texture that he wanted for the background was amazing.
The finale for Day 1’s stage events was a performance by Tam, a popular violinist. It was an interesting performance; though it’s hard to get excited by violin music, overall it was rather fun as Tam’s skills and crowd interaction were amazing.
To wrap up Day 1, I went around the rather empty event hall with a group of friends and started doing… weird stuff to the various giant posters we saw.
So the main thing to take note is that when it comes to events, while special guests and booths may be interesting, the real fun comes from the people you go to the event with and the things you do together. And I have to confess, my pictures for this event are generally not that good ^^;;
See you later for Day 2′s post!
