It’s only just 6 more days to November 8, where the halls at Suntec Convention Center opens its newly renovated doors to welcome AFA yet again! There’s a ton of stuff to do this year but it’s quite obvious that most of the budget went into bringing in the many artistes who will perform for the Anisong concert.
Are you guys looking forward to AFA this year? Personally I only look forward to the performances and not the event itself. Why is that so? I’ll give my reasons after the jump.
Before I give you my reasons, let me ask pose this situation to you readers: Have you ever found something, like a book or show that’s totally awesome and yet unknown to the masses? Then one day, it somehow becomes popular overnight or over a few days or weeks and suddenly the whole world is jumping on the bandwagon. You are utterly disgusted at all the wagon jumpers and feel insulted that they speak like as if they know the book or show inside out when they don’t.
It happens to me quite a lot. I’ve been reading light novels since years back and the recent “novels to anime” trend wave isn’t helping this situation at all. I’m happy that the novel I read turned into an anime but at the same time all these weaboos speak of it as though they’ve known it for a long time. Just to name a few – Suzumiya Haruhi, Shana, Haganai, OreImo, and the recent Date A Live – all of these good novels defaced by the weaboos. All they do is just read the cliff notes of the show and they act like they’re experts already. It’s really disgusting how the light novel/manga/anime scene has turned into but alas, this trend is to continue and never fade.
Coming back to topic, why I’ve never looked forward to AFA.
I realised I came to not look forward to the event ever since the 3rd one. The main and biggest reason is because it needed business to survive. By this I mean that the management is bringing in what is popular to appease the weaboos and make money out of it. I know they have to do business, they need their profit margins and everything, but I really hate how ever since last year’s AFA, everything just started going downhill.
I never knew how SAO was so popular despite it having such a terrible and predictable plot and story. That novel was utter bullshit. It was quick to introduce canon characters and discard them as quickly as they were introduced – Kirito’s former guild, the seamstress Ashley, that friend that Suguha had, and many many more to name. But no matter what I say, weaboos find it the best anime ever so they’ll lap up all the merchandise like dogs lapping water and that’s where AFA gets their profit from. Which is also how I’ve come to not look forward to the event but only the Anisong concert.
What are your thoughts about this?
